Turning Windows into Exits during RIT by Instructor 5 Productions

Firefighting Articles from Desert Diamond IndustriesFirefighters can get stuck several rooms into a structure during fires and especially during RIT. They may not be able to retrace their steps in these situations, and even if they can, it can cost them precious minutes and air.

When this happens, the best thing you can do may be to turn the nearest window into an exit with a power saw. William “Trey” Nelms III and Instructor 5 Productions demonstrate this valuable technique in this video.

Good video here. As for RIT, we do ours very similar. A RIT team of 2-4 find the victim and attempt to find a secondary means of egress; much like your video suggests. Air supply is the biggest deciding factor.
